Adeliah: A Gem in The Queen City

Buffalo has definitely produced some of the finer acts in music to date, such as Every Time I Die, It Dies Today, Cannibal Corpse, the Goo Goo Dolls, Snapcase and to a somewhat lesser extent, Rick James. The scene in Buffalo never seems to fade as quality acts get their name in lights night after night.

The next one? Adeliah. Now, don’t try to pronounce it, it might aggravate you. Regardless, it is safe to say, their jams are surely tasty.

Adeliah combine a bit of rock and a bit of screamo. Their work is reminiscent of Senses Fail’s ‘From the Depth of Dreams,’ ‘The Changing of Times’ era Underoath or ‘…And Don’t Forget to Breathe’ era A Static Lullaby. Chugging guitars, relentless drumming and constant, unremitting vocals are the elements that Adeliah utilize in order to achieve their penultimate sound.

Vocalists Jeordan Hill and Rich Hartnett blast through vocal peaks and valleys as they harmonize and complement each other en route to their complete vocal aesthetic. They work together to sell the package that is Adeliah.

‘Say Your Wrong’ is a track harkening back to screamo’s heyday, showcasing the raw energy and force the band possesses, while on the opposite of the spectrum, ‘If Love Is a Lie’ sees the boys trying their hand at a ballad-esque track, highlighting their ability for quality songwriting and heartfelt melodies.

There was a point in time a few years back when almost every new heavy band sounded like this, but somewhere along the way those bands went astray. It is a little refreshing in a way, making Adeliah worth a listen and a little bit of your time.

For fans of…Hopesfall, Underoath, Funeral for a Friend, Thursday, Poison the Well
