Bad Cover Bands Are a Nightmare
I was in Lake Tahoe this past weekend and was hanging out at the Harrah’s Caino nightclub Cabo Wabo. Supposedly this is Sammy Hagar’s place but he has never been there which doesnt make sense to me but I digress. I was actually here twice, both Friday and Saturday.
So, anyways.
There was this cover band there playing both nights and for some reason they sounded better the second night, but thats not why I’m writing. When I saw them the first night, they played a series of three songs before I left that I heard. They played ‘Inside Out’ by Eve 6, ‘My Own Worst Enemy’ by Lit and finally ‘Mr. Brightside’ by the Killers. The Eve 6 cover was pretty good and it did have me signing along, but then they butchered an easy song in the Sugar Ray cover. After butchering the Sugar Ray song, why would you come out and try to cover the Killers?
Of course, they sucked.
Regardless, this really confused me and I attempted to talk to my girlfriend about it and she had no idea what I was talknig about.
Ugh, women.
When I went back the next night they covered AC/DC’s ‘Back In Black’ in the only song I heard and they actually sounded pretty good.
Its weird, I know. Maybe its just me.
Anyone in cover bands out there? Can someone explain this to me? Who picks the setlist?
